Diamond Ranch Academy - Utah Residential Treatment Center

Diamond Ranch Academy Campus in Hurricane Utah

The Diamond Ranch Academy (DRA) was created and designed to help teens who are having difficulty in understanding how to positively and effectively deal with their real-life experiences in academics, peer groups, and ultimately how it affects their view of themselves. Some issues that the staff at DRA are trained to deal with are depression, low self-esteem caused by bullying or other trauma, suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, academic problems based on learning disabilities, and serious behavioral issues including truancy, authority issues, and vandalism.

The Diamond Ranch Academy (DRA) is nestled on a picturesque 55-acre campus in Hurricane, Utah. Close to the DRA campus are two national parks—Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. Both parks offer teens the opportunity to experience a multitude of recreational activities such as hiking expeditions, bike tours, and geological explorations. Teens will be able to experience all that nature has to offer and how it can have a positive impact on their overall well-being and outlook.

When a teen arrives at DRA, they participate in an orientation that lasts for at seven days. This is a means by which the staff gets to know each teen and they get to know the DRA staff. They will then become familiar with everything that is offered to them on the DRA campus and they will feel comfortable in their new surroundings. An integral part of this week-long orientation are discussions that include parents with staff so that there is an understanding that their teen is not the only one with a stake in the process and their success.

Programs

The Diamond Ranch Academy programs are based on a multi-level, customized approach that includes specialized therapeutic processes, academics, performing arts, life skills, athletics, and vocational training. Each program is built on the foundational belief that the only way each teen can succeed is to have a personalized learning process that allows them to see their issues through their own personal lens and in turn, how to approach their issues in a more positive way in order to solve them on their own over a lifetime.

The academic programs are designed traditionally, yet each teen who is at DRA who has difficulty adapting to a traditional academic environment is allowed to approach their learning on their own terms and at their own academic pace. DRA’s academic mission is to have each teen graduate from the program and be able to take their newfound knowledge into real-world environments with a confidence in their personal abilities and skill set. DRA feels that each teen can only do this if they are given a personal stake in their own success.

Students at Diamond Ranch enjoy a wide variety of activities

A variety of extra-curricular activities like athletics and performing arts programs help to develop skills in peer interaction in both large and small settings to help with self-esteem and developing healthy personal relationships. Each teen participates in these at their own pace and in their own time with the end-goal of making their social circle bigger and building up a level of trust for others whether it is parents, peers, or staff, leading to lifelong success.

New Haven RTC

New Haven is a residential treatment center for girls with locations in Saratoga Springs and Spanish Fork, Utah. They cater to exclusive programs for girls age 12-18 and focus on solutions for healing. They have inpatient treatment, wilderness therapy and accept transfers from other youth treatment programs.

According to New Haven, "We base our treatment decisions on a simple question: What would I want for my daughter? We know that underneath her struggles – whether, with depression, anxiety, traumatic stress, substance abuse, an eating disorder, or another challenging emotional issue – your daughter is still there, waiting to be discovered, loved back to wholeness, and reunited with her family.

After twenty years of working together, our treatment team is one of the most experienced in the field of girls' adolescent treatment. We know from experience that girls struggling with complex emotional and behavioral issues need access to a variety of proven therapies. Experience has also taught us that even the most clinically sophisticated approaches to treatment are only effective if those delivering them come from a place of connection, compassion, and hope.

Clinical excellence. The warmth and love of a home away from home. That's what we'd want for our daughters. So that's what we provide for yours."

Discovery Ranch RTC for Boys

Discovery Ranch Campus in Mapleton Utah

Discovery Ranch is a residential treatment center for boys ages 13-18. They focus on outdoor and adventure programs that involve the parents to provide therapy for troubled teenagers. They focus on areas such as ADD/ADHD, substance abuse, adoption/attachment issues, learning disabilities, and mood disorders.

They provide residential therapy to house the students and provide for their daily needs. Onsite staff provides care and treatment to ensure the boy's needs are met. According to Discovery Ranch:

"Discovery Ranch strives to heal your family as a whole. You and your son will rebuild your relationship with weekly family therapy, family visits, and Parent Day activities. Also, you will be able to observe your son’s progress through our secure, password protected Parent Portal. For many parents, this focus on parental participation is the reason they choose our program.

You and your son will have weekly therapy sessions led by a certified, experienced therapist. We will arrange therapy sessions around your schedule. They will take place over the phone or via video conferencing. The therapy sessions will focus on rebuilding relationships and reestablish or improving positive, respectful communication. These family therapy sessions have been vital to helping many families restore their bonds.

When his therapist thinks you and your son are both ready, you will be invited to visit your son at the ranch. You will both have the full support of our staff in a secure environment. After a successful on-campus visit, you and your son will progress to less structured visits. The visits will transition to off-campus visits, then overnight stays, and finally home visits. Because the visits become gradually less structured, both you and your son will feel comfortable with each new step in the process."

Discovery Ranch is a fully functional 22-acre ranch with horses and all sorts of outdoor activities. Students are taught to tend to the animals and how to ride horses as part of their therapy.

Sunrise RTC

Sunrise Residential Treatment Center is a program designed to help girls ages 13-18 overcome behavioral challenges. They are a boarding school with a fully trained staff that focuses on Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). It is a set of skills to help with relationships, emotions, behavioral issues, and overall well-being.

According to Sunrise RTC, "we realize how hard it is for you to send your daughter away; we also understand that your child needs you in her life, no matter how much she tries to push you out of it. For this reason, we ensure that you are deeply involved in your daughter’s treatment throughout the program.

Family involvement is so important to us that we won’t enroll your daughter without a commitment to family involvement. This includes participation in weekly family therapy through a conferencing platform, quarterly on-campus family weekends, and regular phone calls with your daughter. These activities will help you rebuild a relationship with your daughter. And they may help your daughter build a healthy independence if your relationship is too enmeshed.

Between these many forms of therapy, your daughter will find what works best for her in different situations. If your daughter struggles with co-occurring disorders, she might find that talk therapy works best for post-traumatic stress and that adventure therapy is most effective for anxiety. All teens are different, but most will find one of these therapies helpful. Sunrise is a fully-integrated DBT treatment program, which means that the DBT skills are taught and modeled by the entire staff, including teachers, not just discussed in a group setting."

Sunrise RTC is located in the beautiful St. George area of Southern Utah and offers programs including:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Adventure therapy
  • Recreation therapy
  • Animal therapy
