Diamond Ranch Academy - Utah Residential Treatment Center

Diamond Ranch Academy Campus in Hurricane Utah

The Diamond Ranch Academy (DRA) was created and designed to help teens who are having difficulty in understanding how to positively and effectively deal with their real-life experiences in academics, peer groups, and ultimately how it affects their view of themselves. Some issues that the staff at DRA are trained to deal with are depression, low self-esteem caused by bullying or other trauma, suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, academic problems based on learning disabilities, and serious behavioral issues including truancy, authority issues, and vandalism.

The Diamond Ranch Academy (DRA) is nestled on a picturesque 55-acre campus in Hurricane, Utah. Close to the DRA campus are two national parks—Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. Both parks offer teens the opportunity to experience a multitude of recreational activities such as hiking expeditions, bike tours, and geological explorations. Teens will be able to experience all that nature has to offer and how it can have a positive impact on their overall well-being and outlook.

When a teen arrives at DRA, they participate in an orientation that lasts for at seven days. This is a means by which the staff gets to know each teen and they get to know the DRA staff. They will then become familiar with everything that is offered to them on the DRA campus and they will feel comfortable in their new surroundings. An integral part of this week-long orientation are discussions that include parents with staff so that there is an understanding that their teen is not the only one with a stake in the process and their success.

Programs

The Diamond Ranch Academy programs are based on a multi-level, customized approach that includes specialized therapeutic processes, academics, performing arts, life skills, athletics, and vocational training. Each program is built on the foundational belief that the only way each teen can succeed is to have a personalized learning process that allows them to see their issues through their own personal lens and in turn, how to approach their issues in a more positive way in order to solve them on their own over a lifetime.

The academic programs are designed traditionally, yet each teen who is at DRA who has difficulty adapting to a traditional academic environment is allowed to approach their learning on their own terms and at their own academic pace. DRA’s academic mission is to have each teen graduate from the program and be able to take their newfound knowledge into real-world environments with a confidence in their personal abilities and skill set. DRA feels that each teen can only do this if they are given a personal stake in their own success.

Students at Diamond Ranch enjoy a wide variety of activities

A variety of extra-curricular activities like athletics and performing arts programs help to develop skills in peer interaction in both large and small settings to help with self-esteem and developing healthy personal relationships. Each teen participates in these at their own pace and in their own time with the end-goal of making their social circle bigger and building up a level of trust for others whether it is parents, peers, or staff, leading to lifelong success.
